‘GOURMET’ COMBAT ARMY RATIONS WITH MAGGIE BEER

Our troops in Afghanistan go on patrols that can last for days and rely on ration packs to survive. Designed to keep men and women alive in stressful conditions, they include high kilojoules and carbohydrate foodstuffs. But, gourmet army rations they are not!

“Napoleon said that an army marches on its stomach, and with the interest in food and food culture today, we decided to issue renowned chef, and beloved South Australian Maggie Beer, with a daunting culinary challenge.

On Tuesday August 30, Legacy will host a Black-tie Fundraising Dinner at the National Wine Centre where Maggie Beer will use a healthy dose of epicurean licence, army ration packs, and her own ingredients, to cut, dice, blend, whip and bake her way into military history for all to see.

It’s going to be a wonderful night with after dinner speaker and comedian, Dave O’Neil from ABC TV’s Spicks & Specks, and guests will include the Governor of South Australia, Kevin Scarce and Mrs Scarce. Cpl Mark Donaldson VC . The evening’s MC will be award winning Channel 7 newscaster, Mike Smithson.

Tickets are $175 per person, or $1,600 for a table of 10, and can be booked on 8231 9812. Legacy Fundraising Dinner, National Wine Centre, August 30, 2011, 7:00pm – 11:00pm
